The goal of this course is to thoroughly familiarize radiologic technologists and other healthcare professionals with pancreatic cancer from a medical imaging perspective. The course will cover anatomy and physiology of the pancreas and describe how pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma affects pancreatic structure and function. The course will also discuss contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) imaging and multi-detector CT angiography imaging of the abdomen and pancreas as the preferred imaging modality for the diagnosis and staging of pancreatic cancer. In addition, other diagnostic imaging options are covered including positron emission tomography (PET), abdominal ultrasound, endoscopic ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Lastly, symptoms, signs, risk factors, and treatment options for pancreatic cancer are examined. The majority of the modules within this course are text with images. One module contains an audio interview.
