The goal of this course is to thoroughly familiarize radiologic technologists and other healthcare professionals with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). The course will cover important stats and facts about DVT and PE. The course will also review medical terminology, anatomy and physiology of the venous system, and will identify causes, symptoms, complications, and risks of DVT and PE. Diagnosis utilizing chest X-ray exams, computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) scans, nuclear medicine ventilation-perfusion V/Q lung scans, magnetic resonance venography scans, and duplex ultrasound exams is covered. The course concludes by discussing treatment, prognosis and prevention options. The majority of the modules within this course are text with images. One module does contain an audio interview and another module is a brief video drawing explaining DVTs and PEs.
